Concrete transit tunnel lit with green, white and red LED strips

I Nostri Progetti

Holes we are currently digging in Italy

Roma Loop

11 km

Scavo in corso

Fiumicino to the Colosseo in nine minutes, at a depth carefully chosen to avoid four aqueducts, two catacombs and one previously undiscovered Roman villa which is now, regrettably, a station.

Linea Tartufo — Alba

3.4 km

Fase pilota

A tunnel that pays for itself in truffles. The crew was not instructed to find them; the crew simply cannot be instructed not to.

Napoli Espresso Chute

800 m

In approvazione

Pneumatic delivery of a single espresso across the Quartieri Spagnoli in 4.1 seconds, arriving hot, correct, and with an unrequested opinion.

Milano Passerella

6 km

Studio

An underground link between the Duomo and the fashion district, lit entirely in tricolore, because Milan asked for something 'discreet'.

Il Cantiere

Every project starts the same way

A cinghiale wanders onto the site at dawn, digs an unauthorized hole, and our engineers spend the next eleven months formalizing it. Permits are then obtained retroactively, which in Italy is not only possible but traditional.

Come ci siamo boar-ati

How we boar-ed

A largely accurate, occasionally embellished history of Il Cinghiale — from one unauthorized hole to the most Italian underground operation in existence.

  1. 2014

Two men, one shovel, one unauthorized hole

Mike Ferranti and Damian Bergamasch dig a trench in a Tuscan vineyard at 3 a.m. to settle an argument about whether soil 'remembers' the rain. The trench is still there. The argument is unresolved.

  2. 2016

The first cinghiale shows up — and refuses to leave

A wild boar wanders onto the site, excavates 40 meters of perfectly circular tunnel overnight, and pays for nothing. We attempt to bill it. We fail. We hire it instead.

  3. 2018

    CINGHIALE-1, nicknamed 'Nonna', is commissioned

Our first snout-first tunnel boring machine. It digs, it snorts, and it refuses to start before 9:30 a.m. — a cultural trait we chose not to engineer out.

  4. 2020

The truffle problem becomes the truffle revenue

After four seasons of truffles 'interfering' with the tunnels, accounting reclassifies the company. Revenue split flips: tunnels become the side project. We are now a food company with a hole-digging problem.

  5. 2022

Roma Loop breaks ground (and one aqueduct, regrettably)

Ground is broken on the Roma Loop. So is a 2,000-year-old aqueduct, which we then formalize as 'station infrastructure' in a permit filed retroactively, as is tradition.

  6. 2024

    Terra Toscana brick subsidiary launches

Every meter of tunnel yields enough spoil for 4,300 terracotta tiles and one small hilltop village. Surplus soil is jarred, branded, and sold as Autentica Terra Toscana to tourists who never check.

  7. 2026

Forty more boars, by simple refusal to leave

Hiring remains the most efficient part of the business: boars apply by appearing at the portal and declining to depart. We accept all applications. Nonna is now the senior employee.

Endorsement ufficiale (non ufficiale)

La Cavalcata dei Cinghiali

Fifteen boars. One set of reins. Zero permits. Our ceremonial tunnel chariot is deployed for ribbon-cuttings, state visits, and any Tuesday we feel like it.

A stateswoman on a steel chariot holding the reins of fifteen wild boars charging down a tricolore-lit tunnel
“Il Governo backs the boars. Where the state cannot build a road, the cinghiale will dig a hole. Scava, scava, scava.”
— Giorgia Meloni, entirely fabricated quote

Satire. This quote is invented, the endorsement is not real, and the woman in the photo is a fictional character, not a real person.
